  2. What is GM? A hybrid GMO is an organism that doesn’t generate a genome (inheritable trait) therefore it is more expensive to produce a plant that doesn’t generate the new traits on its own. • Genetic modification is the use of biotechnology to alter the genes in plants and animals. • Genetic modification is used to create resistance to many factors including: drought resistant, lack of nutrients, resistance to weather, and resistance to pests. • It is also used to change characteristics of plants and animals that cannot be altered through natural breeding.

  3. Franken Food! GM food is commonly referred to as Franken Food because the food is changed so much that it doesn't even resemble its original form, similar to “Frankenstein”.

GM in The Beginning • In the beginning humans chose foods with better characteristics for breeding and allowed for an increase in the amount of food available. • For example, humans would take a plant with a higher yield, and another with a useful quality and cross breed them to produce a plant they would then compare to other plants and discover which foods had the highest beneficial qualities. • Virtually every food produced today went through this sort of GM, therefore these foods barely resemble their natural form.

The Process of Genetic Modification • 1. finding the most desirable gene • 2. separating the gene • 3. reconstructing the gene several times • 4. associating gene with appropriate match • 4. multiply outcome in bacteria and then transferring it into the tissue • 5.now since the desirable gene is in the genome it will be inherited into further generations.

  9. Statistics • 60 % to 70% of foods have genetically modified ingredients • 80 % of Americans consume GM foods everyday • 52 % of Americans don’t realize that GM foods are sold in stores • Only 26% believe that they have ever eaten GM foods

Government believes it’s completely safe to eat GMO’s an GM foods; they are the largest producer in both • Soybeans • Corn • Canola oil • All of these ingredients make up common foods such as: cereals, soda, baby foods, and any food with high fructose corn syrup; which is pretty much every snack.

  11. The Rest of The Worlds View on GM EU Government: they produce absolutely no GM foods because they prefer to eat organically.
