The Mexica, also known as the Aztecs, believed they were guided by their god Huitzilopochtli, symbolized as the "Left-handed Hummingbird." Upon arriving at an island in the lake, they witnessed an eagle perched on a nopal cactus, leading them to establish their new city there. This creation myth highlights their profound connection with nature and divine guidance. The Aztecs also engaged in human sacrifice to honor Huitzilopochtli, where priests would perform ritualistic ceremonies involving the removal of a victim’s heart, offered to the Sun-God in reverence.
