  1. The Scarlet Letter Luis Sotelo

  2. Chapters 3 and 4 Chapter 3 Summary: In this chapter Hester Prynne is standing on the scaffold and is still accepting her punishment. As she stands there is a “stranger” in the crowd. And he seems very interested in Hester Prynne. This chapter is located in the market square and explains hos the stranger talks to the man about Hester. Also the propose a sermon about sin and how it reflects to Hester's actions. Chapter 4 Summary: In chapter 4 Hester Prynne gets to talk to her husband when he goes and visits her at the jail. (I think she had recognized him in the third chapter cause it said she had a strong gaze towards him. ) Hester also thinks that he is trying to poison her.

  3. Theme Acceptance: Mr. Prynne is going to have to life with the fact that Ms. Prynne decided to commit adultery. Embarrassment: In chapter 3 it says that Mr. Prynne puts his head down and says that that was a fair punishment. I think that he is some what embarrassed and sad. Yet he is not trying to give away that he is the actual husband.

  4. Puritan Ideas Some puritan Ideas that I found in chapters 3 and 4 would be, how they would give sermons and reflect it back to what Hester Prynne had done. I think they were trying to use her mistakes to try to teach everybody that you will be unwanted if you sin.

  5. Character Analysis Hester Prynne: She is still staying strong. Still being accepting about her decision. RogerChillingworth: I feel like he is having mixed emotions of the situation.

  6. Symbolism and Irony Pearl: I think pearl represents Prynne's emotions. Because she usually starts crying when she squeezes her to tight. I think as strong as Prynne is emotionally she still gets nervous and accidently releases this through hugging onto pearl tightly. Prynne and ChillingWorth: I think we knew that he was her husband in a way, yet we were not sure.

  7. Test 1: What was everybody doing in the market square? 2: Who was the Stranger? And how did he know Hester Prynne? 3: Who is Pearl? What does Hester think when Chillingworth goes to the prison to visit her?
