  1. ANIMAL KINGDOM PRESENTATION • Students will prepare informational PowerPoint presentations on a group from the animal kingdom. • Groups and topics will be assigned by the instructor.

  2. ANIMAL KINGDOM PRESENTATION • Animal groups will be based on the Animal Kingdom tree of life. • Some groups will research “early” animals like the sponges or jellyfish. Others will research more complex groups such as the Reptiles or Mammals.

  3. ANIMAL KINGDOM PRESENTATION • The presentations will be viewed by other students in the very manner that we are seeing this now. • Individual students, or perhaps pairs, will guide themselves through the presentations that we will make.

  4. ANIMAL KINGDOM PRESENTATION • Because we will not be able to explain our work to the viewer as they go through our PowerPoint – all needed information must be communicated clearly in text. • Therefore we need to know enough about our topic to anticipate questions that might be asked.

  5. ANIMAL KINGDOM PRESENTATION • Each group will manage their own project creation efforts. • Groups will need to divide up the tasks to be completed. • Such as research, or all of the things that go into making the PowerPoint. • Each group member needs to express their own strengths so that everyone is working on something they can do well.

  6. POWERPOINT REQUIREMENTS • It is expected that each presentation will display an effective use of the tools available within the PowerPoint program. • Creativity with the software will be rewarded.

  7. POWERPOINT REQUIREMENTS • PowerPoint skills include: • Making visually stimulating slides with attractive color schemes. • Animating pictures and text so that the viewer is guided through the presentation.

  8. POWERPOINT REQUIREMENTS • PowerPoint skills include: • Including pictures to show group’s uniqueness • Having diagrams that help explain concepts.

  12. POWERPOINT REQUIREMENTS • PowerPoint skills: • Sounds need to be used. • Students can use headphones. • Including a podcast could help to explain concepts • Find one online, or make your own… • What does the animal group we are researching sound like?

POWERPOINT REQUIREMENTS • PowerPoint details: • Font size used can be smaller than that used for a projected presentation. • 18 or more will work. • A font like “Arial” will look good and be easy on the eyes. (It’s sans serif.) • This is Arial font size 18. • Include no more than 1-2 concepts per slide.

  14. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • Getting the audience the proper information will be extremely important! • Any misinformation will lead people astray… • Misinformation is a grade killer! • The order of information should follow the supplied note-taking pages exactly.

  15. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • What will we need to know about each Animal Kingdom group • What is this animals natural habitat? • What does it eat? • How is this animal important to humans?

  16. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • How is this animal important to its environment? • What unique characteristics does this animal group have? • Why is this in its own group? • Tell us something cool about this group!

  17. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • Show us examples of the subgroups in the assigned animal group. • Such as the Classes or Orders • For example, Sharks and fish are in the same major group, but they are only “cousins”. • They are in the same Phylum, but different Classes.

  18. You lookin at me? INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • What is the animal’s skeleton or support structure like? • How does the animal get oxygen and get rid of Carbon Dioxide?

  19. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • How does the animal reproduce? • Is there a unique lifecycle? • What is the animal’s nervous system like? • Does it have eyes? • Does it hear?

  20. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • What is its circulatory system like? • Does it have a heart? • Does it have blood? • Does it have blood vessels?

  21. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • How does the animal excrete wastes? • Does it produce urine? • How does this animal digest its food? • Does it have a digestive system?

  22. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • Show us as many examples of the animal group as possible • Pictures, videos, diagrams of group’s variety and diversity

  23. INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS • Documenting our information • A works cited list will be turned in. • With at least seven (7) sources • At least two (2) non-internet • MLA format will be used. • Which is the same format we use in English classes.

  24. GRADING THE PROJECT • The project will be graded in two major parts: • The information presented • Is it detailed? • Is it accurate? • The proper use of powerpoint • Does it look great? • Does it keep the viewers attention?
