  3. Problem • Should an intersex child’s genitalia be altered when they are born?

Factors: • Surgery to change the genitalia of an intersex could potentially render the child infertile, meaning that they will not be able to produce off spring • The child may be unsatisfied with the state of their genitalia • Many intersex individuals suffer from sexual abuse, feelings of stigma, scarring and numbing of their body, anger, and depression • Religion and moral beliefs could influence the parent’s decision regarding the child’s genitalia.

  5. Solution • The Intersex individual should wait until they are at an age where they can make a decision about their genitalia • Creating a set of conditions and or regulations for parents to decide the gender of their child. • Have a government sponsored class that can educate parents on the importance of respecting their children’s preference with regards to their genitalia.
