Involvement of children and their parents in planning services results in the the provision of more appropriate services. Consultation and involvement of service users to establish their views, preferences and needs can help services work more efficiently and effectively, allowing more flexible and tailored provision.’

Experiences from England to consider • Attitudinal change is important, but only when it translates into better everyday working practices • Partnership with families requires effective multi-agency working • Better partnership working with families underpins service improvement for all children and young people- initiatives for deaf children are more likely to succeed when embedded within broader policy initiatives • National programmes are powerful – they ‘set the agenda’, define expectations for what services should look like, maintain momentum and enable workforce development.
