Aims of this meeting • To bring together teachers who teach Further Mathematics and those who are hoping to teach it in the future • To collectively discuss issues affecting teachers who offer (or wish to offer) a Further Mathematics qualification to students in their school/college • To begin to explore ways that teachers can engage in CPD; identifying existing and potential opportunities

  5. About the FMSP The Further Mathematics Support Programme (FMSP) follows on from the Further Mathematics Network (FMN) It is managed by the same team of people at MEI who set up and ran the FMN and who are working in partnership with the NCETM

Aims of the FMSP The FMSP has three strands: Student Support - helping to provide access to Further Mathematics tuition for all students; Teachers' Professional Development - enabling more teachers to teach Further Mathematics and level 3 mathematics within diplomas; Communications and Marketing - promoting mathematics and raising awareness of the benefits of studying mathematics beyond GCSE.

FMSP Area Coordinators Our role is to promote and support the teaching and learning of FM and level 3 mathematics within diplomas by Helping schools and colleges to teach them ‘in-house’ Facilitating consortium working between neighbouring schools and colleges Organising CPD Arranging external tuition for FM when tuition cannot be arranged by other means

FMSP and the NCETM The NCETM is partnering the FMSP to support the FMSP’s CPD strand This involves Promoting and supporting one another’s work, locally and nationally Development of the NCETM portal to support FM and level 3 mathematics within diplomas Funding networks and teacher enquiry projects focused on further mathematics

  11. The NCETM and the FMSP The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics aims to support and encourage mathematics-specific continuing professional development, for all teachers of mathematics across all phases.
