AGRICULTURE & AGROINDUSTRY FOOD PROCESSING Enterprises involved in post-harvesting phase are concentrated in a few specific provinces, according to: • type of produce (e.g. Forlì and Cesena specialised in fruit and vegetable processing) • type of manufacturing (e.g. Bologna specialised in food packaging) POST HARVESTING TECHNOLOGY • 30% Italian enterprises located in Parma • Parma core of the food processing equipment industry • Main products: tomato processing equipment, fruit and vegetable processing machines, meat processing machines, pasta processing machines. FOOD PROCESSING EQUIPMENT national and international leader in automatic wrapping and packaging machines accounts for about 50% of national enterprises and 70% of the turnover of the sector Packaging Valley, between Modena and Bologna enterprises invest 3% - 7% of their turnover on R&D Main products: bottling systems, palletizers,, filling-closing machines, automatic machines for food packaging, wrapping machines. FOOD QUALITY CERTIFICATION • 1st Italian region to adopt specific rulings for the production of Controlled Quality products and to adopt a law on the traceability of foodstuffs • 2 types: food-chain traceability (UNI 10939) or company traceability (UNI 11020).
