  1. Warm - UpCRCT Prep February 16, 2011 The Yangtze River (known as the Chan Jiang in China) is A. one of the cleanest rivers in Asia. B. very short in length. C. flowing to the northwest. D. heavily polluted by waste. What is the difference between an ethnic group and a religious group? A. There is no difference between an ethnic group and a religious group. B. Different ethnic groups may have conflicts, but different religious groups never have conflicts. C. Religious groups are found in one area whereas ethnic groups are spread across the region. D. A person can join a religious group but is born into an ethnic group

Standard/Elements • SS7G1 The student will locate selected features of Africa. • SS7G2 The student will discuss environmental issues across the continent of Africa. • SS7G3The student will explain the impact of location, climate, and physical characteristics on population distribution in Africa. • SS7G4 The student will describe the diverse cultures of the people who live in Africa.

  4. Today I will show my knowledge of Africa’s culture, location and governance because the culture of the society is the product of religion, beliefs, customs, traditions, and government of the society.

  5. Essential Question • Describe the cultural diversity within Africa.

  6. Work Period “African Times”- Using the Publisher template provided by the teacher, the student will continue to produce a newspaper that would include information that would be relevant to anyone who wanted to know about Africa today. Students will use any of the following countries: Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire), Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sudan. They will begin by including information about the geography of Africa ( 30 mins)

  7. Closing Students will use their checklist and rubric to do a self assessment to determine if they have all elements needed for standard mastery. ( 5 mins)
