  1. ITIL 4: An Evolved Approach to IT Service Management

  2. Introduction • Under the community and industry-led initiative, AXELOS has introduced the latest iteration of the ITIL framework: ITIL 4. ITIL4 Foundation certification is the first course under the updated ITIL course structure. • With the inclusion of several ITSM tools and methodologies like ITIL Service-Value-System along with concepts from other leading frameworks, ITIL4 provides a holistic way of managing Information Technology to support the diverse business scenarios.

  3. This brings us to the question: What has changed in ITIL family certifications? • In this article, we will take a glance at what should you expect from the updated ITIL certifications. • AXELOS has announced in the past that ITIL will be updated throughout 2018 and the first course will be out in Q1 2019. Let us first look at the efforts taken by AXELOS in the process of updating ITIL. According to ITIL: • “We have created the ITIL Development Group, now at 2,000+ members, which has helped steer the development of ITIL 4 and continues to do so”.

  4. What has changed? Evolved View: • A major shift in ITIL comes in the form of an evolved view of Service value system. While ITIL 3 describes Service Management around 26 processes and functions that are part of a continuous process of 5 life cycles: Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation, and Continual Service Improvement, ITIL 4 brings up a holistic end-to-end picture of what it really means to contribute to business value, along with adding concepts from other methodologies like Lean, DevOps etc.

  5. Upgraded Structure: • Another major change is the formation of two separate designation stream; ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) and ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL). • To complete ITIL structure comprises of following levels: • ITIL Foundation • ITIL Specialist modules (3) • ITIL Strategist • ITIL Leader • ITIL Master

  6. To complete ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL), one must complete: • ITIL 4 Foundation • ITIL Specialist: Create, Deliver & Support • ITIL Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value ITIL Specialist: High Velocity IT • ITIL Strategist: Direct, Plan & Improve To complete ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP), one must complete: • ITIL 4 Foundation • ITIL Strategist: Direct, Plan & Improve • ITIL Leader: Digital & IT Strategy
