  1. Phillipians • Phillipi was an important and busy city on a major trade route between Rome and Byzantium in Macedonia. • It was a strategic town from which the Gospel could be spread. • One of the first churches in Europe. • Lydia was converted there. • The jailer was converted there.

  2. Theme of this letter • Christ is all sufficient. • Christ gives meaning to life. • Christ is love. • Christ is contentment. • Christ is joy.

  3. There is no greater need in humanity today than JOY. Joy is internal yet, is expressed externally. Smiles. Laughter. Kind spoken words. Joy is contagious. Joy is encouraging. What else can it be ?

  4. Most of our culture today thrives on bad news. TV shows, CSI, Law and Order, Daily news broadcasts. We need a new beginning. We need to put joy back into our lives. Joy will give us new direction and a sense of humor. IF , we are Christians, we must show our faith. Where is a good place to find JOY ?

  5. A really good place is a church family. Uplifting spirits Laughter Smiles Encouragement Help in time of need Joy in the Scriptures News of our Heavenly home is there

  6. The happiest people are rarely the richest, or the most beautiful, or even the most talented. Happy people do not depend on excitement and ‘fun’ supplied by externals. They enjoy the fundamental, often very simple, things of life. They waste no time thinking other pastures are greener; they do not yearn for yesterday or tomorrow. They savor the moment, glad to be alive, enjoying their work, their families, the good things around them. They are adaptable: they can bend with the wind, adjust to the changes in their times, enjoy the contests of life, and feel themselves in harmony with the world. Their eyes are turned outward: they are aware, compassionate. They have the capacity to love.

  7. Paul’s letter to the Phillipians. In this letter Paul shares his many hardships Paul takes his circumstances, and masters them by: letting go and letting God. Paul shows us that God does a better job of joy giving, than we do. Having confidence that God is in charge allows joy to happen.

  8. MY NAME IS I AM WHEN YOU LIVE IN THE PAST, WITH IT’S MISTAKES AND REGRETS, IT IS HARD. I AM NOT THERE. MY NAME IS NOT I WAS WHEN YOU LIVE IN THE FUTURE, WITH IT’S FEAR AND PROBLEMS. IT IS HARD. I AM NOT THERE. MY NAME IS NOT I WILL BE WHEN YOU LIVE IN THIS MOMENT, IT IS NOT HARD. I AM HERE. MY NAME IS I AM

  9. Our god is not, a distant deity Our God is, a constant reality

  10. Joy is a choice We must make the choice When we choose to live joyfully, laughter and enthusiasm will follow

  11. Chapter 1 THERE IS LAUGHTER IN LIVING Whether or not we get what we want, In spite of difficult circumstances And even when there are conflicts We are in training

  12. Chapter 2 THERE IS LAUGHTER IN SERVING It starts with the right attitude ( humility ) It is maintained in the right theology ( God is God ) It is encouraged by the right role models and mentors ( associates )

  13. Chapter 3 THERE IS LAUGHTER IN SHAREING Paul shared: His life’s trials, His goal of living, His reason for encouragement

  14. Chapter 4 THERE IS LAUGHTER IN RESTING Paul writes some of the greatest words on the principle of personal contentment. “ Knowing who is in control “

  15. Throughout this letter, the concept of “ the all – sufficiency “, of Christ is found. What is “ all sufficiency “ ? Christ gives meaning to life. Christ is giving us His Home. Satan is Christ’s rival, he has no gift. Satan- temporary pleasure. Christ – eternal pleasure.
