  1. Tests and more tests Jean Gross CBE 2019

  2. The lion inside The book is read aloud at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlfDD3gYZ_0 and by CBeebies at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aSSv2Tu0P8/ Also fun is this fabulous rap-style version for older children https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7D2nASjCwU

  3. The lion inside Before sharing the book, have the children discuss and infer what the story might be about and what is meant by the blurb heading: ‘You don’t have to be big and brave to find your roar’ After reading the book the class might discuss: • Can you think of a time when you have overcome your fears? How did you feel? What was the outcome? What advice would you give to others? • The mouse realises that “if you want things to change, you first have to change YOU.” What does this mean, do you think? • You might have the children compare this story to other stories about being brave. How do characters find their ‘Lion Inside’?

  4. SEAL Years 3 and 4 from Good to be Me

  5. Old Wormwart’s Cure for Worrying • Catch that worry! Is it a useless worry or a useful thought? • If it is a useful thought take it by the hand and do something! • If it is a useless worry, take it by the throat and say ‘Go away and leave me be’ • If it fights back find a way to RELAX – a Useless Worry can’t stand a calm mind. • Challenge it! Say ‘Useless Worry, you are lying’ then tell it all the things that shows the worry isn’t true : ‘Last time things were OK’ ‘That isn’t true because…’ ‘That is really rare….’ • If it STILL won’t go away, TALK TO SOMEONE WHO WILL LISTEN • Adapted from ‘Good to be me’ green set p. 25

  6. Work on worries In pairs or small groups share some of the things you worry about. Then try out Old Wormwart’s Cure for Worrying on the next slide for one or two of them. Does it work? What else can we do to stop ourselves from worrying? Create a class book of ‘Things to do when you are worried’. Make a worry box in the classroom.
