Notebook • Pen/pencil • JGHG book HOMEWORK STRIKE SYSTEM IN EFFECT: COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK AND JGHG BOOK OUT BEFORE BELL MondayDecember 8, 2008 Objective(s): • Analyze complex plot elements by reading JGHG,answering questions at the end, and participating in class discussion. • Judge the essentialness of scenes by answering questions in their composition notebooks and defending them during a written conversation. Agenda Warm up in notebook [3 minutes] Warm up discussion [5 minutes] Review/Preview Slides Chapter 20 Vocabulary JGHG, Chapter 20, pg. 233 Questions in composition notebook, to be discussed aloud if time remains.

  2. Warm Up12/8/2008 WARM UP 5 PEOPLE NEEDED FOR “DISCUSSION” • We have been reading JGHG for the past two weeks—in most of the chapters, Joe Bonham wants death more than anything. Do you think his wish will be granted in the last chapter? Why or why not? If you could pick a perfect ending to this story, what would happen in it? • DO NOT STOP WRITING UNTIL THE 3-MINUTE TIMER HAS GONE OFF!

  3. Review (ALL PERIODS)[If you were absent Friday, Dec. 4] OPTIONAL NOTES • Chapter 15, 16, 18, 19: • Joe successfully communicates with the nurse by tapping his head against the pillow. The doctors ask Joe, “What do you want?” Joe is insulted by the question and in the end, asks for death.

  4. Preview (ALL PERIODS) TAKE NOTES • Chapter 20: • After asking for death, Joe awaits the doctors response. The doctors respond.

  5. Chapter 20 Vocabulary TAKE NOTES • Tumultuous: noisy • Forsaken: to give up; abandon. • “dope”: slang term for the medicine that puts Joe to sleep. • Consummated: to finish; conclude.
