Requirements of German Courses of Dr. Failla 2014-15 The German Courses deal with the following: The study of the major grammatical points of the language Development of oral-conversational ability, listening comprehension, and writing ability in the target language Developing an awareness and appreciation of German culture and history Preparation of skills needed on level of course Incorporation of the N.Y. State Standards and Common Core Standards

Materials needed: • Various texts, workbook materials and handouts including review sheets, grammar introduction sheets, vocabulary lists and worksheets • Notebook binder to hold handouts given throughout the year which will serve as text or additions to text • Paper for homework • Computer availability for project work

  3. Grading System • Homework is assigned at a minimum of three times per week. Homework is not always written homework but may also be preparation for oral quizzes, tests or projects. Homework is always graded individually with a numerical grade or with a rubric. Homework is counted as 15% of grade and parents can expect a phone call home if homework is not done and handed in on time. When a student is absent, homework missed is due within 2 days of the return to school. • Tests: 40% • Quizzes: 30% • Oral participation/Dialogues and presentations: 15%

  4. Grading System • All above grades are averaged for final quarter grade • Extra-help: Monday before school in Rm. 114 and most days before school from 7:00 to 7:30 A.M. by appointment • Conference: Available by appointment
