  2. 1950’s 1950’s fashion creepers • In 1958, Britain produced its first rock and roll song and star when Cliff Richard and The Shadows reached number 2 in the charts with “Move It”. American rock & roll such as Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Buddy Holly became very important in the British charts.

  3. 1960’s: BEAT MUSIC • In cities like Liverpool there were many bands playing in ballrooms and bands (The Beatles). There were other bands in London like The Rolling Stones and The Kinks.   4. THE BEATLES • The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. They were, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Their enormous popularity was called Beatlemania. They had lots of fans. Girls went crazy when they saw them:

  6. 1970s GLAM ROCK • Glam rock (also known as glitter rock) developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s. It was performed by musicians who wore outrageous clothes, makeup and hairstyles, particularly platform-soled boots and glitter. The flamboyant costumes were often androgynous, and have been connected with new views of gender roles. Glam rock musicians include T. Rex, David Bowie, Roxy Music and Queen.

Mohawk hairstyle Punk Rock Dr Martens • Punk rock developed between 1974 and 1976. In Britain the most important bands were the Sex Pistols and The Clash, particularly in London; they mixed simple aggressive sounds and lyrics with clothing styles and anti-authoritarian ideologies. Punk rock bands created fast, short songs, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraced a DIY (do it yourself) ethic, with many bands self-producing their recordings and distributing them through informal channels. 1977 saw punk rock spreading around the world, and it became a major international cultural phenomenon.
