  2. Expressing Emotions • Emotions are feelings that a person has. • Emotions are what makes us human!! • The way in which a person expresses their emotions can be healthful or harmful. • Holding anger inside or losing control of your emotions can be harmful!

  3. Think, Pair, Share! • What are healthful ways to show emotions? • Anger? • Sadness? • Happiness?

  4. Healthful Ways to Express Emotion • Admit your feelings • Identify your emotions • Calm down • Tell others how you’re feeling • Walk away from a situation when you feel your losing control • Talk with a trusted adult.

  5. Stress • The body’s demand to daily living • Stressor- a cause of stress • Eustress: positive stress which prompts a healthful response

  6. Stress • Distress: Stress that is negative and prompts a harmful response.

  7. People Can Manage Stress!! • 1. Identify the signs of stress • 2. Identify the cause of stress • 3. Do something about the cause of stress • 4. Take action to lessen the harmful effects of stress

  8. Stress Management Skills • Plan your day • Use the Guidelines for Making Responsible Decisions • Talk to a parent or guardian • Get exercise

  9. Stress Management Skills cont’d… • Get plenty of sleep and rest • Eat healthy foods • Write in a notebook • Spend time with a pet • Plan something fun with friends
