  6. What makes the following an effective PEE paragraph? In the novel Of Mice and Men, George controls Lennie. “Give it here!” said George. Here, George is ordering Lennie to do what he has already asked. By repeating himself, he is showing his authority and control. The short sentence also makes what George says seem very blunt and demanding. He is ordering Lennie to do what he says without giving him a chance to respond. The use of the exclamation mark also suggests he is shouting, which is a way of showing Lennie that he is very much in control of the situation and of their relationship.

Considering Characterisation • Characterisation refers tothe ways in which writer’s present or portray characters and the effect this has on the reader’s interpretations and understanding of them. In your exam, you will have to explain your opinions about characters as well as what they add to the actions and messages of the plot. • Therefore, complete each of the following paragraphs using PEE.
