  2. The Pyramids • The pyramids were made as a tomb for the Pharaohs. • The oldest pyramid was made in 2630 BCE–2611 BCE. • The Biggest and most famous of the pyramids is the Pyramid of Khufu at Giza. It was the largest of the pyramids made.

Great Pyramid • It is regarded as a “true pyramid” with smooth sides, the step having been covered with a limestone casing. • Built from more than 2,000,000 blocks of stone averaging more than two tons each. • The Great Pyramid at Giza was the tallest structure in the world for more than 4300 years.

  6. Step pyramids • The first pyramid to be built was the Step Pyramid at Saqqara, near Memphis. • The Step Pyramid was built during the 3rd Dynasty (2649-2575 BC). • A man named Imhotep was the architect of the pyramid.

  8. The Sphinx The Sphinx is a statue with the body of a lion and head of human. It is made of lime stone in 10,500 B.C.E. It is 241 feet long and 65 feet high. They have been trying to restore it since 1950 through the Present.

Major Temples • Ancient Egyptian Temples were believed to be the dwelling places of the Egyptian Gods • Only the Pharaoh and the Priests were allowed inside the temples. • It is located on the West Bank of Luxor, Medinet Habu is the Arabic name for a huge temple complex which is the second largest. Better preserved. Pharaohs Hatshepsut and Tutmosis III built a small temple dedicated to Amun on the site.

Early Ancient Egypt • Is the first 500 years in Egypt's history. • Lasted 3000-2575 B.C. • Divine kingship was established • Their writing system started off with a few signs for quantities and went to the whole language with several hundred different signs • Many aspects of their lives evolved during this era.
