  4. A. Pursuing the Abundant Life Individually • Philippians 3:13-16 • 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. • 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; …. 16 …, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule (step), let us be of the same mind.

  5. A. Pursuing the Abundant Life Individually

  6. A. Pursuing the Abundant Life Individually • 1. Pressing toward the goal : attaining maturity; in the process of being continually renewed. • 2. Grow in the grace and knowledge of God’s glory and virtues • Abound in the eight virtues in 2 Peter 1: 3-7 • 3. Attaining abundant life from continually progressing in: • Faith-- go deeper • Love -- spread broader • Hope– look higher, further

  7. B. Manifesting the Body Life Corporately • Ephesians 4:14-16 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.  • 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.  • 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

  8. B. Manifesting the Body Life Corporately • Mature Body Life • 1. Stand firmly on the truth, not tossed about, or wavering. • 2. Preserve the unity in Christ the Head, amenably and circumspectly. • Psalm 133 – Blessed unity of God’s people • 3. Grow corporately; joints and ligaments function together to build up itself in love

  9. B. Manifesting the Body Life Corporately • Blessed Unity of the People of God • Psalm 133 • Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! • 2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard,The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments.3 It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.

  10. C. Proclaiming God’s Glorious Excellencies Outwardly • 1Peter 2:9 • But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies (praises, mighty deeds, virtues) of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

  11. C. Proclaiming God’s Glorious Excellencies Outwardly • Romans 12:17-21 •  17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.  • …. • 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.  • 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” • 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

  12. C. Proclaiming God’s Glorious Excellencies Outwardly • 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 • 14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.  • Colossians 1:24 -25 • 24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, 25 of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, [NKJV]

  13. C. Proclaiming God’s Glorious Excellencies Outwardly •  1. Pursue goodness. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.   • 2. Be the Salt and Light of the world around us. • Diffuse the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ in every place. • 3. Evangelize outwardly – the ministry of reconciliation. • Stay true to the Word of Salvation, and attuned to the human needs. • Rejoice in the suffering for the Gospel’s sake.
