Social Commerce • With the rise of ecommerce and social media, there’s been a massive push towards social commerce, where online retailers and social networks are partnering to offer consumers a convenient and frictionless online shopping experience. • This year we have seen Instagram thrived as a social commerce platform, as it deepened its e-commerce integration with a new feature released in November that allows retailers to add more important product information about the photo they publish. • Pinterest also excels as a commerce platform with more than a million businesses on the platform that feature more than 10 million buyable products. 17% of social traffic to e-commerce websites is driven by Pinterest.
The “Uberization” of shipping • The difference between online and offline shopping is soon diminishing as customers will now be able to get products on an on-demand basis, On demand delivery (like Amazon Prime) will become as a standard delivery service in the coming months in 2017. • The parcel delivery industry, a segment of the e-commerce shipping sector that mainly handles the transportation of packages to consumers is going to boom in 2017, thanks to e-commerce growth, and players outside the industry want a piece of the pie.
More Payment Options • Making an option as easy as possible for your customers results in more conversions and sales. • Debit & credit cards, internet banking have long been the dominant payment players in the market. In 2017, we will see more alternative payment choices available from recognizable brands. Mobile wallets such as Apple Pay will gain more adoption next year as they get more information out to the public while mobile shopping is on the rise.
Contextual Shopping • Contextual shopping is potentially a gaming-changing idea that elevates e-commerce personalization into a whole new level. With customer-centric technology, e-commerce brands can map the journey based on their past purchasing history and further anticipate their needs. This means that the homepage might change, depending on the products viewed by a customer during the previous visit. Many e-commerce pioneers have put themselves ahead of the curve. Amazon, for instance, features personalization on their homepage which reflects recommendations for similar products to the prior purchase.
