I am so excited to spend the next 10 weeks with you/your child. This program teaches life skills and offers a hands-on practical experience. (Please note these units may not always be taught in this order) Consumerism Needs vs. Wants Brand Name vs. Generic Advertising Clothing Construction & Care Fabric pros & cons Laundering Stain Removal Fashion & Body Types Sewing Review Hand Sewing from HCS 6 Sewing Machine parts & use Construction of item using a sewing machine Food & Nutrition Review of Food Safety & Sanitation Review of Kitchen tools & equipment Recipe Reading Cooking Lab(s) Child Development Physical, Social, Emotional, Cognitive Development Research and create a Power Point Present to Class Tests/Projects 45% Projects are due on time! Students who turn in a project late may do so with a 15 point deduction. Late projects will only be accepted within one week of original due date. Class Participation & Effort- 30% If a student is absent, they are excused from certain class experiences that cannot be made up. This will appear in SchoolTool as Ex. For Excused. Homework- 15% Students will receive full credit (3/3) for turning in homework the next class day. Students will receive a 2 out of possible 3 points for returning the assignment within 1 week of due date. Students will receive 1 point out of 3 for returning the assignment by course end. Students who owe work at the end of the course will have a detention with the Teacher to complete the assignment. Students are encouraged to use Lunch Bunch for help with assignment completion. Cooking Labs 10% On average, there are four cooking labs a quarter. Students are assigned cooking groups and receive a group grade based upon their participation and demonstration of cooking skills. If a student is absent on a cooking lab day, they are excused (Ex. in SchoolTool) and do not need to do anything to make up the missed experience. Grading Policy Course Outline 10 Weeks
