The ROC wants postdoc concerns to be represented and considered as policies and programs are developed, and would like two postdoc representatives on the committee. What is the ROC ? The BWH Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) is governed by the Research Oversight Committee (ROC) which is made up of department representatives, BRI Center and Program Co-Chairs, and the BRI Executive Committee. The ROC was established to foster transparency and accountability in the decision making process for the research enterprise and to plan new strategic initiatives.

Center for Faculty Development and DiversityOffice for Postdoctoral Careers Why Volunteer ? • Participate in discussions and promote the interests of the postdoc community within the BRI- Report back to the postdoc community on items of interest • What’s Expected ? • Both postdoc representatives would be expected to attend every monthly ROC meeting (Thursdays 7:30–9:00 am) however, if both cannot attend, at minimum one should attendHow will we choose two postdocs ? • BWH postdocs will nominate and vote- OPC will facilitate process viasolicitation of nominees via emailcollecting votes via anonymous web survey Does this sound like a good plan ?

Center for Faculty Development and DiversityOffice for Postdoctoral Careers NIH Loan Repayment Programs: • As of Friday, September 1, 2006, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been accepting applications for its five Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) for Fiscal Year 2007. • Clinical Research LRP • Clinical Research LRP for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds • Contraception and Infertility Research LRP • Health Disparities LRP • Pediatric Research LRP • Deadline: December 1, 2006 • repay up to $35,000 annually of the qualified educational debt of health professionals pursuing careers in biomedical and behavioral research • applicants must possess a doctoral-level degree, devote 50% or more of their time to research funded by a domestic non-profit organization or government entity (Federal, state, or local), and have educational loan debt equal to or exceeding 20% of their institutional base salary. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or U.S. nationals to be eligible. • Online application, program information, and other assistance are at http://www.lrp.nih.gov
