Smart Grid “A smart grid is an electrical grid that uses information and communications technology to gather and act on information, such as information about the behaviors of suppliers and consumers, in an automated fashion to improve the efficiency, reliability, economics, and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity”. Physical layer: Wireless or PLC ? • Information types for the smart grid, who needs, owns and is authorized to use it ? • Information volume, data rates, bandwidth • Efficient topology, interoperability • Network traffic, latency, stability • Reliability and availability, need of redundancy, Balance between supply and demands • Electromagnetic compatibility and interferences • Vulnerability, security, risk reduction, immunity to Cyber attacks
