Responsibilities of Test Administrator • Complete checklist in PAWS Directions for Administration Manual (DFA) on p. 8 • Preparing to Give the PAWS onp.14 • General Directions for Administration of the Online and Paper-and-Pencil Tests p. 24 - 31 • Oversee the distribution, collection and return of PAWS test materials during your testing sessions

  7. Assessment Ethics and Security Requirements • The Proficiency Assessments for Wyoming Students (PAWS) are standardized assessments and must be administered in a standardized manner.

Assessment Ethics and Security Requirements • Test administrators shall: • Keep all test materials in locked storage • NOT reproduce any test materials in any manner • NOT read or discuss any actual test items prior to testing • NOT disclose any actual test items to students prior to testing • NOT provide answers to any test items to any students • NOT change a student’s answer • Follow the 2008 PAWS Directions for Administration explicitly

Assessment Ethics • The following slides contain the only materials or resources to be provided by schools during the PAWS Assessment. • Use of any other resources (human, electronic, manipulative or paper) will be considered an unethical assessment administration practice leading to invalidated test results.

Only materials allowed during PAWS • Writing tests • Writing Scoring Rubric sent with test materials • Blank paper for use to create a graphic organizer • Lined drafting paper or draft paper from the WDE website • #2 pencil • Dictionary • Word wall- A word wall is a systematically organized collection of words only; with no definitions, displayed in large letters on a wall or other large display place in the classroom.

  15. Paper-and-Pencil Format • Student Test and Answer Books • Books have pre-ID labels

Completing Demographic Information • Follow directions on “Completing Assessment Demographic Information” (DFA p. 21-23) • Located on the back of the Student Answer and Test Book • Use a #2 pencil • If a Pre-ID label has been provided, only complete demographic Box 1 • Do not complete any other boxes • If a Pre-ID label is not provided, complete all demographic information (Boxes 1 – 5 & Box 6 for Grade 11) • Complete each box and fill in bubbles

Writing Test for Grades 3 - 8 • Two writing sessions • Session 1 • Drafting session • Paper / pencil format • Can use drafting paper to match books which is available online at: http://www.k12.wy.us/SA/Paws/docs/draft_writing_pages.pdf • Regular notebook paper can be used • Drafting session is not scored • Drafting paper is to be collected and returned with non-scorable materials

  18. Writing Test for Grades 3 - 8 • Session 2 • Revision and final copy • Final copy is scored • Ensure that the student’s response is in the correct section of the book • Final copy must be written in the Writing Student Test and Answer Book • Only what is written within the box will be scored

Session Lengths and Order of Sessions • PAWS is not a timed test • Approximate times for completion of the online and paper-and-pencil sessions are provided in DFA • Must complete the online and paper-and-pencil session in a content area before beginning a new session in a different content area. Exception on the Writing Test • Session 1 (Drafting) and Session 2 (Revising and Final) may be separated by the administration of another content area session • All testing activities, including any make-up testing, must be conducted during the test administration window

Returning PAWS Materials to Building PAWS Coordinator • Sort scorable and non-scorable materials (DFA p. 97 – 99) • SSID sheets (DFA p.115-116) need to be filled out correctly • Arrange the Student Test and Answer Books so the page with the name grid is facing up • All Test and Answer Books are to be placed in classroom or grade-level stackswith a completed Scoring Service Identification (SSID) sheet on top of each grade/class

  24. Returning PAWS Materials • Shipping Dates for Return to Harcourt • Date for pickup at SCHOOL is pre-scheduled with K-2 Logistics • Pickup Dates are April 18 or April 21 • All test materials MUST arrive at Harcourt by April 24, 2008

  25. 2008 PAWS Score Reports • Online Multiple Choice Score Reports • Preliminary Online Score Reports • Student Score Report, with multiple choice raw scores only • Available during testing window • Process begins after 200 students have completed the assessment • No writing results will be available • Final Online Score Reports include: • Final Online Rosters Reports for Writing, Reading, Mathematics, and Science
