  3. TPO: BNW 12 GRADE • WE WILL COMPARE AND CONTRAST BERNARD MARX AND HIS CIVILIZED WORLD WITH THAT OF JOHN AND THE SAVAGE LAND.

  4. TPO : LORD OF THE FLIES GRD: 9 • WE WILL COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE CHARACTERS OF RALPH AND JACK.

  5. NOVEL:BNW • Read through chapter 9 silently and take notes on comparisons and contrasts between the two worlds and the two men, Bernard and John. • Work on and finish all study questions up to this point and the letter. • Turn in all novels for inventory

  6. NOVEL: LORD OF THE FLIES • Read through chapter 7 silently and take notes on comparisons and contrasts between Ralph and Jack. • Finish all study questions over chapter 6 and the letter home.

BNW:Compare and Contrast • Using the compare and contrast diagram provided, take notes on the comparison and contrast between John and Bernard and the civilized world and uncivilized Savage Land. • Suggested topics: • Characteristics , symbols, literature elements, nature vs civilization, science vs nature, role in society, etc….

LOF:Compare and Contrast • Using the compare and contrast diagram provided, take notes on the comparison and contrast between Ralph and Jack and the civilized world and uncivilized natural world. • Suggested categories • Characteristics , symbols, literature elements, nature vs civilization, science vs nature, role in society, etc….

Sentence Outline: BNW • Using your compare and contrast flow chart, Fill in the Sentence outline in preparation to write a 5 paragraph essay on this subject: • Comparing and contrasting Bernard Marx and his civilized world with John and his uncivilized world, write a 5 paragraph essay discussing the overall theme or themes of the novel. • Suggested theme : In the dystopian society of Brave New World, the society has destroyed individualism , dehumanizing its members into products on an assemble line in order to preserve the society. • Suggested theme 2: In the novel Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, the characters and societies are both compared and contrasted to show man’s two sides,civilized and uncivilized , and the need for individualism over society or the need for the good of society over individualism. • Suggested theme 3: Aldous Huxley , in Brave New World, seems to criticize the argument found on page 148 by the DHC and seems to suggest the need for individualism and freedom even over the greater good of the society.
