UKB, what do we do? • Characteristics: a cooperative initiative • No legal entity • Independent decision making • Aim: “to improve scientific services and in particular services to the members of the individual libraries” (since 1977!!) • Working groups and committees UvA Universiteit van Amsterdam

  4. Characteristics of Consortia • The Ad Hoc Consortium: just for fancy occasions and opportunities • The Loose Consortium: the coalition of the willing • The Strong Consortium: for the better and the worse UvA Universiteit van Amsterdam

  5. Critical Success Factors • Common goals • Common nature • Common structure • Common funding • Doing more than just buying licenses UvA Universiteit van Amsterdam
