  2. AWRA History • History: An employee of the Illinois State Water Survey (Sandor Csallany) applied to the secretary of State of Illinois to reserve the name American Water Resources Association in 1963. • AWRA Motto (3C): - Community - Conversation - Connections AWRA was born in 1964!

  3. The AWRA Mission To advance multi-disciplinarywater resource education, management, & research This integrated approach to water resource issues has proven invaluable to AWRA members of many different disciplines .

  4. AWRA Brand Promise AWRA promises a balanced, professional approach to solving water resources challenges in a friendly & comfortable atmosphere.

  5. AWRA Membership Profiles AWRA Membership: 3,000 From all 50 states, District of Columbia, Guam & Puerto Rico. From more than 40 foreign countries. AWRA is truly a multi-disciplinaryassociation, as members represent nearly 60 disciplines related to water resources! Membership is about equally divided between academics, governmental employees at all levels, & the private sector.

  7. AWRA Publications(continued) JAWRA is the Journal of the American Water Resources Association. It is a peer reviewed, refereed scientific journal that features current water resources issues, innovative technology & relevant research. Water Resources IMPACT is AWRA’s bi-monthly magazine featuring practical solutions to current water resource issues.

  8. Meetings & Conferences (continued) Conferences are organized by AWRA State Sections or AWRA Technical Committees. In addition, AWRA may organize specialty meetings, such as the National Water Resources Policy Dialogue held September 17-18, 2002 in Washington, D.C.   9. ACWI Ad Hoc Subcommittee - SWRR • Purpose: • Serve as a forum to share information and perspectives that will promote better decision making in the U.S. regarding of our nation'swater resources • AWRA is a member of Steering Committee • September 10 - SWRR Presentation by Ethan T. Smith

ACWI Ad Hoc Subcommittee – TMDL Science and Policy Conference • Purpose: • To help identify and clarify what science tools and information are available or needed to assist state, tribal and local organizations in listing impaired waters, developing effective TMDL plans, and implementing TMDL • Co-Chaired WEF and ASIWPCA • TMDL’02 in Phoenix (Nov.13-16) • TMDL’03 in Chicago (Nov. 16-19) • Subcommittee Leader for TMDL Development and Implementation
