Resume…….. CV…….. What’s the difference • The primary differences between a resume and a curriculum vitae (CV) are the length, what is included and what each is used for. • A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience and education. While a resume is brief and concise - no more than a page or two, a curriculum vitae is a longer (at least two pages) and more detailed synopsis. • A curriculum vitae can be long enough to include a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details.
Long versus Short • How far back do I include? • Should we include volunteering and other activities from college or only those during medical school? • Include at minimum your major activities that required the most time/the longest length of time and/or those that were health/medical related that will indicate your long-term interest in this area. • Highly recognized honors (such as high school valedictorian or long-term study abroad experiences) can be included.
Long versus Short • What do I cut? • What do I leave? • Do I list references or not?
