  1. Holocaust Memorial Day27th Jan 2014 • By Charlotte Owens: • I am writing on behalf of ambassadors from Brighouse Sixth Form, West Yorkshire, about how we have marked Holocaust Memorial Day.  • Today we began a series of assemblies at our college, which will continue into next week, educating the other students about our experience and what we learnt from it. Our main message was that the Holocaust is not simply an event in the past, but that the discrimination it demonstrated remains even today. If we do not remember the past, we will be doomed to repeat it.  • We also unveiled a Holocaust Memorial Tree in remembrance of the victims of genocide throughout the world and our hopes for a world without prejudice. We welcomed students to write messages and hang them on the tree. This will act as a tribute and reminder of the Holocaust itself, but also other acts of genocide and prejudice, which continue around the world today. • This will all be publicised in the local press, and we have used social media to spread word of what we have done. I have tweeted/retweeted @HolocaustUK several times, including pictures of our efforts, and have posted the appeal film on social media. • We are all very excited about continuing our role as ambassadors throughout the year and doing so again when we move to University. We would like to thank you again for giving us such a life changing opportunity.
