  2. National Board Certification • Valid for 10 years • Recognized nationally as an indicator of accomplished teaching • Specific to age of students, subject area

National Board Certification Portfolio: • Content-area test (computer assessment) • Student work samples • Classroom videos • Evidence of professional involvement that impacts student learning Each entry is accompanied by the teacher’s written description, analysis and reflection that demonstrates how his/her practice aligns to the NBPTS teaching standards.

  4. NBPTS - 5 Core Propositions • Teachers are committed to students and their learning. • Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects. • Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. • Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience. • Teachers are members of learning communities.

  5. Three-Year Overview • Year 1 (2014-15): Study the NBPTS standards, collaborate, write & reflect (3 workshop days at district) • Year 2 (2015-16): Begin the process to earn National Board Certification by completing the first 2 components (3 work days at district) • Year 3 (2016-17): Complete the last 2 components for National Board Certification (3 work days at district)

  6. Benefits and Support • The WBL School District will pay ½ the National Board fees for teachers in years 2 and 3 of the program ($1025 of the $2050 total). • Teachers who earn National Board Certification qualify for an additional annual stipend of $1500 per the WBL teachers’ contract. • Teachers who complete the requirements for National Board Certification may apply for graduate credits. See http://www.nbpts.org/college-credit for more information. Teachers who intend to apply for graduate credits must pay all their own National Board fees.

  7. Who Should Apply? • Teachers who are ready to take their practice to “the next level” by learning and applying the National Board Professional Teaching Standards • Teachers who want to increase their effectiveness by reflecting on their work and collaborating with other professionals

  8. Next Steps •Fill out the application for the WBL Accomplished Teacher Cohort. •Discuss your application with your building principal. •Submit your application to Judy Mueller at the Assistant Superintendent’s office by May 30. •New cohort members will be notified in June.
