  3. Audrey Trombley • I feel very fortunate to live in a democratic society and believe that everyone, that is able, should accept civic responsibility.                                I chose running for the Board of education because I believe that a good education provides the tools needed for success in life. I  want to provide programs, and support teachers so they can ensure success for all students. • The part I like the best about being a board member is seeing reports of students doing well! My job on the board is Vice-Chair of the board, Board budget manager and Chair of the Audit Committee. The role of the board is to provide governance and lobby the Ministry for operating revenue and capital funds to ensure students get what they need. The board also monitors the results of student achievement The board connects with communities and other leaders to report on the educational issues.                  Thank you for your questions, I wish you success with your project.

  4. Harold Laich • 1.  I went into the position I am in right now because I have an extensive background in education - 10 years as a teacher, 15 years as a principal, 9 years as a Director of Education and Deputy Director of Education.  I was elected to the Board of Education in 2009 and then re-elected in 2012.  I became the Chairperson for the Board in 2012 - a role I still have today.  I took on the role of Chairperson for the board of education because of my background in education and because it was an opportunity both to use my expertise in guiding educational affairs of the division and to give back to the field of education that treated me so well for 34 years as an employee. • 2.  What interests me most in my position right now is the varied issues that we deal with on a constant basis.  This ranges from employee relations, to educational innovation and programming, to making decisions on building and infrastructure, to dealing with parents on attendance and transportation for their children, to resolving conflicts, to learning about new trends in education, learning and technology, to learning about what our students are currently doing in our schools, to dealing with a $100 million budget, and so on.  It is also interesting to work with 9 fellow board members who do not always agree on issues, but do have the best interests of the students at heart. • 3.  As the Chairperson of the Board of Education, I am responsible for ensuring meeting agendas are prepared, that the right items are on the agenda, that monitoring reports are received and approved, that the board stays on budget, and for chairing meetings of the board.  The board is responsible for the total operation and direction of the school division and for being accountable to parents, the taxpayers and the Ministry of Education for the Government of Saskatchewan.  The work of the board is carried out by our Director of Education, Superintendents, and senior staff as well as other consultants, coordinators and counsellors.  Of course, the most important work of the board is carried out by our teachers, principals and support staff who work with our students (you) every day.
