  2. Hazard Vulnerability Analysis, generally speaking • List Threats • How likely is the threat? • What is the anticipated impact?

  4. Collection • All hospitals and long term care facilities offered • All facilities were asked to supply top five threats • Challenge: All responses unique • Several different models for HVAs • Different threat concepts (i.e. flood versus hurricane) • Specific vulnerabilities not included (why is this important?)

  5. Analysis • All responses were normalized into “like threats”. • All like threats were tallied and weighted based on ranking (from 1-5). • Challenge: Apples and Oranges • Different collection methods and lists of threats • Most facilities submitted entire HVA – some met only the request

  6. From “Apples and Oranges” to “Grapes”…

Group Project • Each group will be assigned threats based on the initial collection of facility feedback from their HVAs. • Members of the group will complete the worksheet in order to think through vulnerabilities and identify mitigation strategies in place and needing to be completed. The group will define internal and regional mitigation strategies and areas for improvement based on vulnerabilities. At the conclusion of the group project, vulnerabilities will be assessed, commonalities will be grouped, and the combined work of all attendees will be leveraged to generate a regional mitigation strategy. Don’t forget regional mitigation strategies may very well be facility-focused!
