The menstrual cycle consists of several stages, beginning with menstruation (Days 1-4) where the uterine lining sheds. This is followed by the maturation of an egg (Days 5-13) and ovulation (Days 14-15). The unfertilized egg travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus (Days 16-22), and if not fertilized, menstrual symptoms may arise (Days 23-28). Menstrual discomfort can include cramps and PMS due to hormonal changes. Awareness of toxic shock syndrome from tampon use is crucial. Regular health checks, like pap smears and mammograms, are recommended for women's health.
