  1. My Person of the Year: Tyler Perry

  2. Early Life • As a child, Tyler Perry was verbally, physically, and sexually abused by his father. Just for reading books, Perry was whipped in the back by a vacuum cord. Before the age of ten, Tyler was molested by four different people, three of them men. His grandmother, not agreeing with the doctor that Perry needed allergy shots, decided to “kill those germs once and for all”. She then bathed him in ammonia.

  3. Early Work • Early in his life, Tyler Perry was beaten and abused. Because of this, he created his first play, called “I Know I’ve Been Changed”, which was written by Tyler Perry when he was still living in his car, and “I Can Do Bad All by Myself". Deciding to give theater one more chance, Perry wrote this play focusing on child abuse and rape.

  4. Present Life • Today, Tyler Perry is living in a large mansion in Atlanta. He has produced 18 movies and 11 plays. In 2009, Forbes Magazine announced Perry as the sixth highest-earning man in Hollywood. Now, in 2010, Perrygotten up the ladder to second highest-earning man,just after James Cameron. Perry has produced and starred in the popular movies “Madea’s Family Reunion”, “Meet the Browns”, “For Colored Girls”, and “Why Did I Get Married Too?”

  5. Why Should He Be Person of the Year? • I think that Tyler Perry should be person of the year because, even after all that he’s been through, he still managed to make millions of dollars from nothing. After surviving the abuse, him talking about it on television is an amazing example to the one in six men that are molested as a child. Tyler Perry, the self-made-millionaire, deserves to be person of the year.
