QSEN Initiative • Prepare new nurses with knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to continuously improve quality and safety in practice environment • Quality and safety competencies from Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report • Changes to existing nursing curricula needed • Three phase project funded by RWJF

  3. Teamwork and Collaboration • Functions effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, demonstrating the values of open communication and mutual respect, with the goal of optimal patient care. • Communicates with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote quality patient care

  5. Informatics • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of patient care technologies, information systems, and communication devices that promote safe nursing practice. • Applies information obtained from technology and informatics sources to promote safe, quality patient care and protect patient privacy.
