  1. Creating Cellular Flow in the Office February 17, 2011 | Pennsauken, NJ Who Should Attend Host Company: Disc Makers Fresh off two well received presentations at AME’s annual conference in Baltimore MD, Disc Makers is hosting a Mid-Atlantic Regional event focusing on the implementation of cellular flow concepts in an office environment. Disc Makers was started in 1946 pressing 45s for record companies in Philadelphia and New York. Since that humble beginning it has had to reinvent itself several times to keep up with ever changing technology. Today it is a full service provider for independent musicians and filmmakers. The services offered include design, engineering, authoring, manufacturing, distribution and fulfillment of physical and digital content. • Anyone working in an office or service environment, including management. • Organizations that have information processes with multiple hand-offs between departments will want to attend, including high and low transactional applications. • Companies that categorize themselves as “job shops” will not want to miss this opportunity to see the application of lean concepts to both production and non-production areas in a custom order “job shop”. COURSE DESCRIPTION The facility tour in the morning will demonstrate how this custom order “job shop” has successfully applied cellular flow concepts to the pre-production process, and sequential pull systems throughout production. This is no easy task when parallel flows are involved, and job routings, quantities, and work content can vary from order to order. Visual management is another tour highlight. After the tour, a half-day workshop on the subject of “Creating Flow in Office & Services” will be delivered. The workshop will review in detail the six-step approach used at Disc Makers to design and implement its office cells. Takt Time, Standard Work, Balancing, and other topics will be covered. Attendees will then help the host company to identify appropriate performance measures for use in the office cells, and develop the means to visually display them. Disc Makers hosted a highly successful and very well attended regional event in July 2010. Space is limited so be sure to register early! For more detailed information, visit www.ame.org Participant Benefits • See first hand the application of cellular flow concepts in an office. • Learn a step-by-step methodology to design and implement flow in an office or service environment. • Learn how Takt Time, Standard Work, and Visual Management all apply to office & services. • See first hand how the application of sequential pull systems are used to control flow throughout the production process in a custom order “job shop”. • Attendees will receive a copy of the newly released “Lean Office & Service Simplified” by Drew Locher (Productivity Press 2011)
