  2. Psalm 139:13-16 from The Message Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.

  3. I Corinthians 12:4-11, 25-26 from The Message God's various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God's Spirit. God's various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God's Spirit. God's various expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful: wise counsel clear understanding simple trust healing the sick miraculous acts proclamation distinguishing between spirits tongues interpretation of tongues. All these gifts have a common origin, but are handed out one by one by the one Spirit of God. He decides who gets what, and when. The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don't, the parts we see and the parts we don't. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.

Personality Tests There are many personality tests available. • Myers-Briggs • Keirsey Temperament Sorter (KTS) • VALS • DiSCDominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance • Some tests use the “older” terms: Choleric, Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Melancholy • Smalley’s Personality Test: Lion, Otter, Retriever, Beaver The Myers-Briggs system identifies personalities but the others highlight those aspects of personality which relate to interactions between people. All individuals possess all four but to varying degrees. For most, these types are not seen as black or white but in shades of gray – or blends. Otter(Sanguine/Influencer) How to Work with Them: VALUE TO ORGANIZATION • Optimism and enthusiasm • Creative problem solving • Motivates others toward goals • Team player • Negotiates conflicts IDEAL ENVIRONMENT • High degree of people contact • Freedom from control and detail • Freedom of movement • Forum for ideas to be heard

Retriever(Phlegmatic/Steadiness) How to Work with Them: VALUE TO ORGANIZATION • Dependable team player • Work for a leader and a cause • Patient and empathetic • Service-oriented  IDEAL ENVIRONMENT • Stable and predictable environment • Environment that allows time to change • Long-term work relationships • Little conflict between people

Beaver(Melancholy/Compliant) How to Work with Them: VALUE TO ORGANIZATION • Maintains high standards • Conscientious and steady • Defines, clarifies, gets information and tests • Objective – “the anchor of reality” IDEAL ENVIRONMENT • Where critical thinking is needed • Technical work or specialized area • Close relationship with a small group • Familiar work environment • Private office or work area

  14. Working with Varying Personalities “In my years of studying and analyzing boardroom presenters and top managers I have come to one conclusion: good managers are balanced. That comes from combining qualities from all four personality types, and working to eliminate or at least modify their weaknesses.”
