  8. OUR STRATEGIC AREAS OF FOCUS

  9. SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT Our overall goal is to embody Jesus Christ in all aspects

  10. Mission and Evangelism • Reach out to at least 100,000 people with the gospel of Jesus in the next 5 years by: • One week outreach initiatives at parish and local church levels on an annual basis. • Evangelism at local church level targeting at least 1000 people monthly across our 40 parishes. • Undertake sports evangelism at various levels especially reaching out to young people with the gospel.

  11. Mission and Evangelism Cont’d Missions Training and Capacity Building; • As part of training and sharpening Christians for the work of missions, we plan to undertake regular capacity building on missions for effective outreach. These includes: - • Training Christians to reach out to Muslims • Hosting a biannual mega mission and evangelism training for clergy and laity across the diocese. This training is intended to be means of mobilizing Christians for missions work.

  12. Discipleship Nurturing believers in Christ (Col 2:6) • Men, women, Youth and children. All these groups shall organize at least 2 seminar meetings annually at various levels (Diocesan, Parish and local Church) where relevant topics shall be discussed in relation to fruitful Christian living. • Discipleship classes at local church level for those who have come to the Lord through our various outreach initiatives. • Daily Vacation Bible schools shall be undertaken where we have contact with children on a daily basis during vacation as we teach them the scriptures and offer life skills. • As part of nurturing Christians in the discipline of prayer and fasting, establish a prayer retreat centre and even second a clergy to the centre

  13. Discipleship Cont’d Discipleship training and capacity building; • We plan to develop a discipleship handbook to help leaders and disciplers in the ministry of discipleship. • We shall also undertake an annual discipleship training conference where we bring together clergy and laity to deepen our understanding of the processes for effective discipleship outcomes. • As part of growing our Christians through pulpit ministry, we are encouraging clergy to embrace more of topical teaching and expository preaching for a deeper understanding and onward application of the scriptures by Christians in their daily lives.

  14. Family Life Education • Develop a comprehensive pre-marital counselling handbook for purposes of adequately preparing young people for the institution of marriage. • Annually, we shall undertake a diocesan family month through which various topics and activities shall be undertaken for strengthening marriages and families. • We plan to train family heads on conducting family devotions as a way of introducing and inculcating a culture of family devotions. • Promote growth in marital relations through topical teaching and experience sharing

  15. SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION Our overall goal is to promote quality holistic education, quality health outcomes and stewardship of environment

  16. Education • The diocese is very keen on promoting value based education and is in full support of the skilled based training that the government has rolled out. Most importantly, we are in the forefront as far as nurturing the spiritual lives of students. • We realize that access to education has been hampered in most cases by lack of financial resources for students who come from very needy backgrounds. As such, we plan to mobilize resources for sponsorship of at least 10 students every year for their secondary school education.

  17. Health • We realize how so many of our members remain ignorant of their predisposal to lifestyle diseases and other ailments. We thus have becoming very intentional in mainstreaming health training and education in our various forums. • There are many people living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHIV) within our diocese and the wider community within our jurisdiction. We still observe attitudes of marginalization and thus we plan to hold HIV / AIDS awareness campaigns using contextualized locally developed materials including in our church services.

  18. Environment • We plan to establish tree nurseries at Archdeaconry level as a way of promoting a culture of tree planting and afforestation. Domesticating tree nurseries is intended to make access to seedlings easier for Christians at the local Church level. • We plan to promote the use of alternative sources of energy such as solar and biogas in order to reduce over-dependence on firewood which is a major reason for deforestation.

  19. OUR MILESTONES • This far into implementation of our strategies through the various programmes, we have managed to achieve the following; • Successfully refurbished our diocesan training and resource centre for our use and which is open to other users. It provides service for hospitality to the community and is a source of income for the diocese. • Mothers Union have established a Christian literature centre. Both clergy and laity can now access books and other ministry related materials. We are in the process of equipping it as much as possible.

  20. CONT: OUR MILESTONES • We are establishing a craft centre as a way of promoting skill based training with initial emphasis on tailoring and dress making. We hope to expand the centre progressively in order to consider a cross section of skills.

  21. CONT: OUR MILESTONES • We have successfully undertaken more than 5 capacity building forums in missions and discipleship as a way of sharpening the leaders for ministry.

  22. OUR PARTNERS’ CONTRIBUTION • Through partnership with the Bible Society of Kenya (BSK), we have distributed over 1000 Bibles to our sponsored schools. A number of our Churches received vernacular Bibles and radio proclaimers to help cultivate and improve Bible reading culture . • Bible society of Kenya also recently facilitated a 4 day training on Trauma Healing for clergy and laity.

  23. CONT: OUR PARTNERS’ CONTRIBUTION • Hatua Trust sponsored a two day retreat for diocesan clergy to reflect on the strategic direction of the diocese. • We hope to hold a Training on Christian-Muslim Relations in partnership with Jacqueline Hoover from UK on Monday3rd to Friday 14th September 2018. This is very key in building the capacities of clergy and laity since the diocese occupies a territory with a high population of Muslims. • The diocese will be partnering with the Just Earth organization to help rural small scale farmers out of poverty through farming and agribusiness. We value partnerships
