  6. KHARIF 2005 - CROPPING PATTERN TRENDS • Promotion of Crop Diversification- Addl. MSP to Jowar, Bajra, Ragi, Redgram • Increase in the areas of Maize, Soybean, Castor & Redgram • Reduction in areas of Chillies, Cotton, Tobacco • Increased intercropping of Cotton with Soybean/ Short duration pulses • Increased intercropping of Groundnut with Redgram, Bajra, Jowar, Castor 1

PADDY • Kharif 05 - 26.0 lakh ha area, 75.58 lakh MTs Production • Increase productivity from 2860 kg/ha to 2907 kg/ha in Kharif 05 • 3368 kg/ha to 3774 kg/ha in Rabi 05-06 • SRR – 69% • SRI Technology promotion • Seed treatment with Carbendizim, Seedling root dip in chloripyriphos • Effective nursery management • Application of fertilizers based on soil test data • Application of zinc in deficient areas • Adoption of IPM technologies 1

MAIZE • SRR – 75% • Maintenance of optimum plant population -66,000 plants /ha. • 1 or 2 irrigations at critical stages like Knee high stage, flowering and grain filling stage. • Surface drainage to be provided to protect from water logging. • Timely control of weeds – use herbicides Atrataf. • Balanced fertilizers through INM • Basal application of ZnSO4 @ 20 kgs/ha • Adoption of IPM practices • In sequence of crops, maize-groundnut & maize- redgram, maize-sunflower is advocated to maize-maize. • Inclusion of pulses in crop sequence. 1

GROUNDNUT • Popularize varieties like Tirupathi-2, ICGV-86590, Tirupathi-3, ICGS-86325, Vemana etc. • Improving seed production chain to achieve the targeted SRR - 17% • Intercropping with redgram, castor, cotton, sorghum and bajra. • Use polythene mulch technology • Popularization of Rhizobium culture and PSB • Supply of Gypusm to increase oil content • Popularize IPM technologies 1

SUNFLOWER • SRR – 94% • Avoid low lying areas in cultivation. • Maintain optimum plant population75,000 / ha • Soil test based fertilizer application for balanced use of fertilizer and supplement for the micronutrient deficiencies. • Wherever the bee activities are low advise hand pollination at thetime of flowering for good seed setting. • Spraying of 0.2% borax increases the seed setting • Adoption of IPM measures for control of Heliothis, Spodptera and necrocis disease. 1

REDGRAM • SRR – 26% • Use of improved varieties. • Adoption of improved production technologies viz., balanced application of macro and micro nutrients. • Application of Phosphorus through SSP in order to supply Calcium and Sulphur. • As inter crop in Groundnut, Maize, Bajra and other pulse crops. • Popularization of rabi redgram to manage from Heliothis attack. 1

  15. BENGALGRAM • Use of improved varieties. • Adoption of improved production technologies viz., balanced application of macro and micro nutrients. • Application of Phosphorus through SSP in order to supply calcium and sulphur. • Adoption of IPM against podborer. • Replacement to non remunerative crops like tobacco and jowar in black soils 1

  16. Intensive Cotton Development Programme • under MM II • Impact • By introduction and implementation of TMC there is a steady increase in area yield and production. • The cotton was grown in an area of 5.54 lakh hect. with a production of l7.43 lakhs bales and productivity 204 Kgs during the year 1985-86 has gone up to 11.74 lakh hect. with a production of 21.84 lakh bales with productivity 316 Kgs during the year 2004-05 (final estimated figures). • Close monitoring of Bt. Cotton hybrid programme in State 1

  18. SEED VILLAGE PROGRAMME - KHARIF 2005 • 1. No. of village covered : 1166 villages • No. of units ( 4 ha each) covered : 1978 Nos. • Qty. of Foundation seed utilized : 6063 Qtls. • Extent covered : 7907 Ha. RABI 2005 -- 5.23 lakh qtls seed will be produced in SVP by trained farmers 1

Seeds – Effective Regulations • Establishment of 19 seed testing laboratories under Single window Diagnostic facility • Establishment of DNA Finger print unit at State level under consultancy of NBPGRI with approval of ICAR • Appointment of Law Officer at District level and State level • Notification of certain courts as special courts to take up speedy disposal of cases relating to seeds. 1

  22. Effective Soil Health Management • 3.00 Lakh soil samples tested during kharif 2005 and soil health cards with fertilizer recommendation communicated to farmers • 2.00 lakh soil samples planned to be tested for Rabi 2005-06 • 14,000 Micro nutrient and 2000 water samples analysed • Portable soil testing kits developed by ANGRAU is being supplied for self and quick assessment of soil fertility • Proposed to supply 10,000 soil testing kits during 2005-06 • Gypsum being supplied @ 5 M.T. per ha to cover 15,500 ha at 75 % subsidy for reclamation of alkaline soils • Zinc Sulphate being supplied @ 50 Kgs /ha at 50% subsidy to cover 2.65 lakh ha for correcting Zinc Deficiency 1

INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT • Vermicompost • 20,000 vermicompost units are being promoted during 2005-06 at 75% subsidy • Technical guidance rendered for construction of shed and vermicompost development • Significant impact on soil productivity observed. • Green manure • 50,000 qtls of green manure seed planned to be distributed in the state during 2005-06. • 32,000 qtls already distributed. 1

  24. AP Fertilizer Consumption moving towards the right NPK ratios Product-wise fertilizer consumption(MTS) N:P:K Ratio During the present year the monsoon being very active in A.P., it is anticipated all time high consumption of Fertilizers. So far 16.91 lakh MTs supplied. 1

  25. PROMOTING IPM THROUGH FARMERS’ FIELD SCHOOLS • Principles • Grow a healthy crop •    Conserve natural enemies •    Conduct regular field observations •    Farmers become IPM experts • Implementation – Kharif 2005 • Villages Covered : 3647 • Farmers trained : 1,09,410 • Modules prepared on FFS : Rice,Cotton, Groundnut,Oilseeds,Pulses, (Facilitators’ manuals) Maize and Non formal education & group dynamics(distributed to field staff) • Telugu booklets on FFS : Rice, Cotton,Groundnut and Redgram (distributed to FFS farmers) • 14 Bioagent Labs strengthened • 5 new labs under construction In Rabi 2005 - planned to cover 3417 villages & train another 1,02,510 farmers 1

  26. Crop & Agriculture term loan disbursements(Rs. In crores) % Increase 51 • For the year 2005, department has identified 10.25 lakh new eligible farmers and playing a facilitator role to bring them to banking net • Exemption of stamp duty is increased from Rs. 1.00 lakh to Rs. 2.00 lakhs on documents executed by the farmers for crop loans and reschedule of loans 1

Promotion of Farm Mechanisation • Government of India approved models of Power Tillers, ISI marked quality Agricultural Equipments are being distributed under our Farm Mechanization Scheme. • An amount of Rs. 4299.56 lakhs have been allocated under different programmes for Farm Mechanization Scheme during the year 2005-06 Impact and adaptability of the equipment • Implementation of the Mechanization Programme has improved the Power Utility per hectare as follows • 2001-02 -- 1.60 KW / Ha • 2002-03 -- 1.64 KW / Ha • 2003-04 -- 1.70 KW / Ha • 2004-05 -- 1.72 KW / Ha • In coming 5 years period the Power Utility can be improved to the level of 2.00 KW / Ha by intensifying the programme for having optimal farm productivity in the country. 1

EFFECTIVE EXTENSION REACH • Capacity enhancement training to all 3500 field functionaries in the department on INM, IPM, Quality control etc., • Preparation of village action plan on major crops – production gaps, credit gaps & mechanisation gaps • Rythu Chaitanya Yatras – pre kharif village level farmers training programme conducted from 25th April to 15th May 05. 18 lakh farmers covered. • Organization of Kisan melas in all districts in the State from 20th May to 6th June 05. • Providing mobility i.e 4 wheeler on hire basis to all MAOs and divisional ADAs in the state & Cell phone facility • Intensive use of bio-fertilizers and bio- pesticides involving RMGs • Strengthening of 22 Farmers Training Centres in the state • Strengthening of Crop resource groups • 3 ANGRAU scientists drafted per each ADA division to visit villages once in a month. 1

  30. Mass Media support to Agriculture Extension Scheme • Agril. Technical quickies/ short films of 60 – 90 seconds duration are being telecasted in the TV channels of TV-9,E.TV-2, Teja News and MAA TV every day for the technical awareness among farmers on IPM, Crop diversification, precautions to be taken in purchasing seed, fertilizers, pesticides. • Current information on agriculture practices crop wise are being telecast in DD (6.15 pm to 6.45 pm) and broadcasted through AIR (6.35 am to 6.45 am) every day to bring awareness among farmers to learn and adopt new agriculture operations. • 5 video cassettes on management practices of different crops like paddy, cotton, groundnut, castor etc and mandalwise situation based cropping patterns were prepared and distributed to all FTCs • Literature on different subjects like IPM, INM, quality control of inputs etc for capacity enhancement of field functionaries of the dept. • Frequently asked questions in Call Centre during 2004-05 are documented & sent to all Gram Panchayats. 1

I.C.T. in AGRICULTURE • So far hardware is supplied to PTLs, FTCs, Soil testing labs, 70 divisional offices & all the district Head Quarters. • AGRISNET proposal for computerization of remaining divisional offices has been sent for GOI approval. • APSWAN connection to Commissionerate, all district HQ offices & PTLs • Web based Software for monitoring daily crop sown particulars is positioned • Software for online monitoring of departmental schemes up to the division level is under progress • Web based software for quality control of pesticides , Soil testing is under progress. • Software for Employee data base management is under progress. 1

  33. PROGRESS OF REFORMS IN APMC APMC Act has been suitably ammended on the lines suggested in the MODEL APMC Act drafted by Govt. of India 1

AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (ATMA) – 10 districts • Institutional framework established for preparation of action plan • Commissioner & Director of Agriculture –Nodal Officer State level - Inter Dept. Working group District level - Governing body - Management committee Block level - Block technology team - Farmers advisory committee • Project director and staff deployed • State level orientation workshop on extension reforms organized • State and district level training for Master Trainers and District Core Team organized • Preparation of Research extension plan underprogress. • SERP will be submitted by 30th Sep’ 2005 1

  35. STATUS OF QUARANTINE FACILITIES IN A.P. NPPTI has submitted detailed proposals to Ministry of Agriculture, GOI. 1
