Uniform Core Curriculum (UCC) • 2007 Florida Statutes • Title XLVIII Chapter 1004.04(2)(b) Public accountability and state approval for teacher preparation programs The rules to establish uniform core curricula for each state-approved teacher preparation program must include, but are not limited to, a State Board of Education identified foundation in scientifically researched, knowledge-based reading literacy and computational skills acquisition; classroom management; school safety; professional ethics; educational law; human development and learning; and understanding of the Sunshine State Standards content measured by state achievement tests, reading and interpretation of data, and use of data to improve student achievement. Sunshine State Standards (SSS) • Developed by committees of practicing classroom teachers and curriculum specialists and adopted by the State Board of Education, the Florida Sunshine State Standards (SSS) are broad statements of what students should know and be able to do. • Teaching the Sunshine State standards is an important aspect of educational accountability. • The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® (FCAT), the foundation of statewide educational assessment and accountability, measures SSS benchmarks in reading, writing, mathematics, and science. • High-quality, standards-focused instruction provides students the knowledge and skills needed to be successful on FCAT. • For more information on FCAT and the Sunshine State Standards http://fcat.fldoe.org/pdf/BriefingBook07web.pdf
