Thinking Together • To serve students we must be: • Dialectical thinkers • The art or practice of arriving at the truth by the exchange of logical arguments. • This is not abandoning your position. • Just as you respect (of students) • Rights • Relationships • Preferences
Awareness of Preferences • Know inventory options • Myers-Briggs, 4 MAT system, Mind Styles • Inventories tell you about people and how they relate to others. • Use inventories for self study and reflection • Student /Teacher, Teacher/Teacher, Parent/Teacher
Respect Differences • Different (teacher) personality types have different teaching styles. • 6 co-teaching models • Familiar teachers are more able to identify the styles of students. • Collaborating with varied styles benefits everyone
Use it at work… • Same lenses can be good…different lenses are better! • “The Wind Blows” activity (p. 70)
Differences • Communicating • “Meyers (1974) contended that it “is human nature not to listen attentively if one has the impression that what is being said is going to be irrelevant or unimportant.” • Finding & Solving Problems • One my focus on the facts the other the meaning behind the facts • Evaluating & Reporting • Hot button issues… eligibility, rewards, etc.
Working Together • Facilitating Team Interactions • Use the strengths of others • Generate ideas • Value the contributions of all members • Differences are not behaviors acted out to harm • Don’t take it personally • Allow all parties to take ownership
