Patterns • A pattern in art is a decorative design. • Patterns in art are a little different than patterns in math where you identify elements in a cycle that repeat themselves. • Patterns in art can be repeated, but they are not required to. • Give examples of plaid, polkadots, swirls, checkerboards, etc.

  3. Anything in nature can be grouped into one or more of the Five Patterns in Nature. • Spiral • Meander • Packing • Branching • Explosion

  14. Many objects may contain more than one of the patterns.

  15. Patterns of Nature Designs • Choose 2 patterns • Make a design that uses both. Figure out how to join them together, your idea will be different from someone else’s and there are lots of possibilities. • Draw the design across the page, be sure to leave spaces between the lines. Your design should cross the entire page vertically and horizontally.
