  4. Members Only jackets reigned.

  5. Collars were turned up.

  6. A few brave men wore spandex.

  7. Even Brad Pitt looked dorky.

  8. ‘80s hair was out of control.

  9. All thanks to this:

  10. Hair kept getting bigger…

  11. …oftentimes, a little too big…

  12. The ‘80s marked the birth of the mullet.

  13. The mullet captured the spirit of the ‘80s: Business in the front; party in the back.

  14. Sometimes men and women had the same exact hairdo.

  15. Sometimes entire families shared the same exact hairdo.

  16. ‘80s make-up was intense.

  17. Eye make-up was colorful.

  18. Eyebrows were big.

  19. Androgyny was in.

  20. Even men wore make-up.

  21. Hence, Goths were born.

  22. THE ‘80s YUPPIE

  23. Y- YoungU- UrbanP- ProfessionalYUPPIE: Noun. Informal.A young city or suburban resident with a well-paid professional job and an affluent lifestyle.

  24. Basically, yuppies were the polar opposite from the hippies of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

  25. Yuppies valued entrepreneurship, business, status, and wealth.

  26. Yuppies were avid consumers with a burning desire to BUY STUFF!

  27. “Go –getter” yuppies were always on the run.

  28. Yuppies would even meet during lunch breaks to do business in what is called a “power lunch.”

  29. Yuppies even had a “power tie,” a tie they considered the most professional.

  30. What yuppies wore on the weekend:

  31. Melanie Griffith plays a yuppie wannabe in Working Girl.

  32. Michael J. Fox plays a very young yuppie in Family Ties.

  33. Christian Bale plays a yuppie serial killer in American Psycho.

  34. In Wall Street, Michael Douglas plays the notorious yuppie Gordon Gecko who pronounces, “Greed is Good!”

  35. Some thought of yuppies as the picture of success…

  36. …and some thought yuppies were shallow, greedy, and materialistic.

  37. Children of the ‘80s

  38. ‘80s kids dressed like rainbows.

  39. You weren’t cool if you didn’t wear high tops.

  40. And you were lame if your socks matched.

  41. Instead of flip flops, they wore jellies.

  42. They crimped their hair.

  43. And wore side ponytails.

  44. ‘80s kids wore a lot of jewelry.

  45. With parents working longer hours, ‘8os kids spent more time alone and grew up fast.

  46. But the economic boom provided a plethora of toys.

  47. They loved the Teenage Mutant Turtles…

  48. …and G.I. JOE…

  49. …and Strawberry Shortcake…

  50. …and Care Bears…
