This report outlines the status of the CVMFS (Cern Virtual Machine File System) deployment as of December 2012. Version 2.1.5.beta has been released, enhancing NFS support and shared cache capabilities, though the NFS feature is advised for emergency use only. The document highlights the collaborative efforts of the four Virtual Organizations (VOs)—Alice, ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb—in promoting full CVMFS deployment at all supporting sites. Initial deployment statistics reveal that ~120 sites have CVMFS supported. A target for deployment by the end of April 2013 has been established, ensuring that the latest software versions will only be available in CVMFS.

CVMFS project • CVMFS used in different scenarios • Software installation, conditions data, nightly build releases • working on EMI “tarball installation” • Version 2.1.5 beta released this week • Provides NFS support and shared cache • NFS feature shall be used only as last resort !!! • Working on last issue where NFS exported files can get stuck in “file not found” status • Targets stable release in Jan 2013 GDB - S Roiser
CVMFS requested by all VOs • All 4 VOs, Alice, ATLAS, CMS and LHCbare part of the CVFMS Deployment task force and (will) strongly recommend full deployment of CVFMS at all supporting sites • Initial status when task force was launched • ~ 120 sites had CVMFS deployed for all needed VOs • Another 97 sites which were not supporting one of ATLAS, CMS or LHCb • Alice joined recently • First want to test a full workflow with the HLT farm • Beginning of next year start to target grid sites for deployment, similar to what has been done already GDB - S Roiser
Deployment Status Status of 97 sites targeted by the task force: 3 email reminders sent, now GGUS tickets opened for each site Either waiting for nfs support or do it with EMI2 upgrade Contact for exact deployment date GDB - S Roiser
Deployment Targets 30 April 2013 • ATLAS and LHCbwant to set a target for CVFMS deployment at all grid sites for • A GGUS reminder will be sent to all sites which have not deployed CVMFS by Feb ‘13 • After the target date has expired • No new software will be put in “old” shared areas • For Atlas sl6 binaries will only be available in CVMFS • Sites will be used as long as the swis up2date • Any site installing CVFMS a posteriori will be used again (pls inform the VO operations teams) GDB - S Roiser
