  1. How do forms of water change? Lesson 2 Learning Goal: You will understand how water changes form and apply what you know about the water cycle.

  2. Forms Water Can Have • Cold weather can freeze water from a liquid to a solid. • Warm temperatures in the spring and summer keep water in liquid form. • When water freezes it takes up more space.

  3. Evaporation • Water can also become a gas called water vapor. • Evaporation is the process of a liquid becoming a gas! • The Sun’s energy evaporates surface water. • That then becomes water vapor in the air. • You cannot see water vapor but you can sometimes feel it on a hot day .

  4. Condensation • Water vapor in the air can turn back into a liquid!! • The process of water vapor changing to a liquid is condensation! • When the air cools, condensation turns invisible water vapor back into drops of water. • Small droplets form clouds and fog. • Large drops that form on plants are dew.

  5. The Water Cycle • There is only a certain amount of water on Earth. • It must be used again and again. • The movement of water from Earth’s surface into the air and back again is the water cycle! • Water changes form or state as it moves through the water cycle.

  6. Precipitation • When water particles in clouds grow in size and weight, they fall faster! • Water that falls to Earth is called Precipitation!! • The form of precipitation depends on the temperature at Earth’s surface.
