  4. Item 47: IRI (International Roughness Index) • Definition: A statistic used to estimate the amount of roughness in a measured longitudinal profile • Extent Requirement: All paved NHS and principal arterials, rural minor arterial Sample Panel sections

  5. Item 47: IRI (cont’d) • Guidance: • Code a default date when IRI date is unavailable • Measure annually for NHS sections • Every 2 years for other sections • Include structures and railroad crossings in measurement

  6. Item 47: IRI (cont’d) • Guidance (cont’d): • Measure /report consistently for same direction and lane • Report the average of right and left quarter-car IRI Mean Roughness Index (MRI) • Report either IRI or PSR for samples on rural major collectors, urban minor arterials and collectors

  7. Item 48: PSR (Present Serviceability Rating) • Definition: Present Serviceability Rating (PSR) for pavement condition • Extent Requirement: All paved urban minor arterial, urban collector, and rural major collector Sample Panel sections

Item 53: Cracking Length • Definition: Estimate of relative length in feet per mile (ft/mi) of transverse cracking for AC pavements and reflection cracking for composite pavements where AC is the top surface layer • Extent Requirement: All AC (transverse cracking), and composite (reflection cracking) paved Sample Panel sections
