Biography • born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon • son of John Shakespeare, butcher and also glover (maker and seller of gloves) and Mary, his wife from a well-established family and a heiress of some land • went to Stratford Grammar School, now called Edward VI Grammar School for Boys pictures from the school • married Anne Hathawayat the age of 18 • they had three children – Suzanna and the twins Judith and Hamnet • left Stratford quite early, some rumours suggest he did it to avoid a charge for poaching deer next >

  4. in 1592 he is established in London • starts a theatre company in 1593, called Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later known as The King’s Men • writes lots of plays and sonnets and is soon regarded as the greatest playwright of all time He has written 37 plays, 154 sonnets(a poem of fourteen linesthatfollow a strict rhyme scheme and logical structure) and lots of other poems He started writing poems in the late 16th century because the Elizabethans considered the writing of poetry to be more important than the writing of plays Hamlet’s monologue ( på närpesiska!)
