WHAT is the CACR? • A technology-rich setting where computing resources are easily accessible to help people accomplish everyday tasks. • Computing resources are embedded in devices • Example: Smart Rooms • Our Goal: explore the rapid application development of multimodal human-computer interfaces • NSF Computing Research Infrastructure (CRI) Grant • Supports acquisition, development, enhancement and operation of research in CS/IT areas • Supports the research and progress of current undergraduate and MS research students • FAMU Research is multi-year funded Storyboarding “Smart” Environments Mobile Collaboration • Software that enables user to develop Java code to program a smart (ambient) environment without coding knowledge Coding done using comic strip approach • User drags and drops icons and actions into scenes • Scenes make up what should happen in an actual event • Code is generated to program the devices indicated in the scene • Development of office environment that is “aware” of owner presence • Office performs tasks based on: • User location (where he is) • User preferences (what he does) • User actions (what he says) • Specific projects: • Enhancing of storyboardingtool • Speech recognition • Developing applications for mobile devices (PDAs, Cell Phones, Pagers, etc.) • Collaborative Mobile Learning: • using mobile technologies to facilitate the collaboration of non-local users on learning tasks • Our Goal: continue exploration of development of platforms and interfaces facilitating collaborative learning via handhelds For more information contact Dr. Clement Allen (allen@cis.famu.edu) at 850-412-7359 or Dr. Jason Black (jblack@cis.famu.edu) at 850-412-7354
