  2. Types of narrative • First person narrative – ‘I’m having a great day today. The sun is shining and I’m teaching my favourite subject – English Language and Literature’ • Third person narrative – ‘Natalie’s having a great day. The sun is shining and she’s teaching her favourite ever subject – English Language and literature’

  3. Now – write about your own day using either first person or third person narrative • First person narrative – ‘I’m having a great day today. The sun is shining and I’m teaching my favourite subject – English Language and Literature’ • Third person narrative – ‘Natalie’s having a great day. The sun is shining and she’s teaching her favourite ever subject – English Language and literature’

  4. Omniscient narrator The Lovely Bones is narrated from the point of view of an omniscient narrator. An omniscient narrator is someone who knows absolutely everything – including what other characters are thinking and feeling. FACT: Omniscient actually means ‘all knowing’. Why do you think writers often like to use an omniscient narrator?

  5. Now • List everything we learn about Susie in the first 5 pages of The Lovely Bones from herself. • Consider narrative techniques for adding interest in first few pages.
