Advantages of using the internet @ home & School • it offers up to date information • accessible anywhere • quick! • provides a connection between home & school • engaging lessons – use of video clips & graphics • teacher resources • interactive activities for students of all ages • unlimited options

Concerns when using the internet @ home & school • cyber bullying • sexual predators • pornography • identity theft • discovering inappropriate information while too immature • little supervision, at times • misinformed/ignorant teachers & parents • distracting while in class or during homework • it becomes addicting to many children & adolescents

  5. What Parents can do to help • monitoring activity • time limitation • put computer in common room of house • educate their children about the possible dangers • passwords • blocking websites • sign a contract between parent & school • keep technology out of bedrooms until mature

What educators can do to help • block websites • educate parents & students about possible dangers • don’t allow computer use during class unless necessary • be a resource for parents • provide contract for parents & students to sign • pay closer attention • filter any search sites • have a “master” screen that supervises the computers of students
